Dallas Temporary Protected Status Attorney

The U.S. offers a form of protection to foreign nationals from a handful of countries in which war is being waged or natural disasters have occurred. This protection is called Temporary Protected Status, or TPS. It is for individuals who have reason to believe they will be in great danger if they return home.

Refugees From Troubled Countries Seeking Asylum

The countries on the list often change, as political situations evolve. The current list of countries includes:

  • Burundi
  • El Salvador
  • Honduras
  • Liberia
  • Montserrat
  • Nicaragua
  • Sierra Leone
  • Somalia
  • Sudan

The number of eligible immigrants is different for every country on the list. An estimated 217,000 Salvadorans are in the U.S. About 500 Somalis are here on TPS.

Important features of TPS:

  • So long as you possess TPS, you will not be asked to leave the U.S.
  • TPS may allow you to avoid removal/deportation.
  • You may seek work authorization or I-512 advance parole on TPS.
  • TPS is not a pathway to permanent resident status.
  • When your TPS designation expires, you will revert to the immigration status you had prior to your TPS designation.

As with all immigration legal matters, Temporary Protection Status is complex and challenging, even for lawyers. That’s why you should work with an immigration attorney who is experienced in TPS applications.

I have been getting all my legal service with the office of Mark E Jacobs for over 7 years now. They are on top of everything and have made a difficult journey a lot easier, taking some of the weight of my shoulders. They have gotten us the results we wanted in a timely process, even when immigration overall is taking months and months. I appreciate all the hard work they did for my family and me.
